Tommy Nutter, the man who brought fashion to Savile Row in 1969, is celebrated in one of a series of new postage stamps that salute British fashion greats of the post-WW2 era. The image on the stamp is inspired by a suit made by Nutter for Ringo Starr, which the Beatle wore in an ad for cloth merchant Holland & Sherry.<\/p>\n

Savile Row entrepreneur David Mason, who owns the Nutters name, organised the recreation of the suit using Holland & Sherry cloth. The Starr original and the modern facsimile will be on show at the cloth merchant’s Savile Row showroom on Friday, June 15, when the bespoke tailoring trade is promoting itself as part of the London Collections: Men fashion schedule. Tommy Nutter, who died in 1992 aged 49, would have enjoyed the fuss.<\/p>\n
