The many admirers of The Queen will enjoy this fine new volume that has been written by my wife, Jane Eastoe, to celebrate HM’s Diamond Jubilee. It contains lots of unfamiliar photos of our always-immaculate monarch. It is published by Pavilion, part of Anova Books.

How nice to visit Berlin outside the show season! I took a quick trip on April 16 to chew the fat with the Bread&Butter ringmaster Karl-Heinz Müller and his happy band of talented young people. The new identity for the upcoming season rightly reminds the BBB community that the show is a rock the sector can depend on in these challenging times. I thought it was appropriate to wear my new G-Star outfit for the visit – let’s get the denim revival started!

At the Wolsey shop opening in Soho

A jolly time was had by all attending the opening of Wolsey’s new store at 79 Brewer Street, Soho on April 12. The landlord, The Crown Estate, has done a very nice job at redeveloping the block. Stone Island and American menswear brand Jack Spade are neighbours. I can recommend a visit. Modern-day renaissance man Alex James and I had to congratulate Wolsey’s CEO Fergus Patterson on a job well done.

Birds of a feather at Etro AW 12-13 preview

Even by his own wonderful standards Etro’s menswear designer Kean Etro is offering us some exceptional flights of fancy for next autumn-winter. Using the Italian brand’s Pegasus logo as his inspiration, Kean has developed an astonishing selection of feathered pieces. Perhaps not the most practical items ever designed for a gent’s wardrobe, they are beautiful and intriguing. But given Etro’s lofty price tags, I may have to wait for the Sale to be tempted.

British Design show at the V&A

I can heartily recommend the V&A’s latest exhibition: British Design 1948-2012. From wallpaper to an Aston Martin DB5 to an Omlet Eglu hen house, it covers a lot of creative bases in an entertaining way.

At Ede & Ravenscroft

I made a long overdue trip to introduce myself to Ede & Ravenscroft in Chancery Lane on 3 April. The company, founded in 1689, is still family-owned and is a fine example of an old-school men’s outfitter. I can definitely recommend a visit. The store has a busy bespoke tailoring department and is, of course, also renowned for its amazing work as a robe maker. Behind the scenes I was lucky enough to try on the gown of a British Supreme Court judge. It’s a remarkable concoction of beautiful damask silk, incredible embroidery and gold thread work. As you might imagine, it is a heavy garment to wear. Well done to all the talented folk at Ede & Ravenscroft. I’ll definitely be heading back there next time I need a horsehair wig.

There are worse ways of spending a day than having a guided tour of the bespoke service at Bentley in Crewe. Alas, this lovely Mulsanne was not in the goodie bag I carried away. Maybe next time…
