Drapers 125th anniversary party
The Drapers’ Record first appeared on 6th August 1887 and, with several name changes, has been published every week since then. I started my career in fashion journalism on Drapers Record, as it was then called, on 28th January 1980. I stayed on the mag for two and a half years. After working on many other titles I was made editor-in-chief of Drapers Record in 2000 and oversaw its merger with its brother title Menswear (formerly Men’s Wear) in October 2002. The result was the modern pan-industry Drapers. I departed the magazine in May 2006.
The mag held a very jolly 125th anniversary party at The Langham hotel in London on Tuesday 12th June, where I saw many old friends from the business and colleagues from the magazines. I am seen here with my wife Jane Eastoe, who was a fashion writer on Drapers Record until I stole her away to the late lamented Fashion Weekly in August 1988, and Caroline Nodder, the lucky woman who is the current editor-in-chief of the august title.
